Oud
A dark, resinous wood note prized as one of the most expensive raw materials in perfumery.
Origin
Formed when Aquilaria trees become infected with a specific mould, triggering a dark, fragrant resin as a defense response. Historically centered in Southeast Asia (Cambodia, Assam, Laos) and the Middle East, where it is deeply woven into perfumery and cultural tradition.
Character
Deep, smoky, and animalic with leathery, almost medicinal facets — oud rarely appears alone, usually anchoring a fragrance's base and giving it lasting power and gravity.
