The Best Attars for Winter

Fragrance behaves differently in cold air than in heat. Cooler temperatures slow evaporation, so top notes take longer to reveal themselves and a scent sits closer to the skin — which means winter is exactly the season to reach for richer, warmer attars that would feel heavy in summer heat but feel exactly right against cold skin and heavier fabrics.

Lean Into Resins and Woods

Oud, amber, and sandalwood-based attars come into their own in winter. Their depth reads as warmth rather than heaviness once the air itself is cold, and they layer beautifully under a coat or scarf, where the fabric traps and slowly releases the scent through the day.

Don't Skip Spice

Saffron, cardamom, and black pepper accents — common in attars like our Saffron Amber and Amberwood — add a lived-in warmth that pairs naturally with the season without tipping into gourmand sweetness.

Apply Slightly Heavier

Because cold, dry air carries scent less efficiently than warm air, it's reasonable to apply attars a touch more generously in winter than you would in summer — one or two extra dabs at the wrists and neck, rather than doubling your usual amount.

Worth trying this season: Royal Oud Attar, Saffron Amber Attar, and Amberwood Attar all lean into exactly this warm, resinous register.
